IN THE HEART OF THE CITY
This is one of the rare remains of the Augustinian convent. In 1497, the inhabitants of the district complained that they could not hear the hour strike at the belfry of the town hall. As the city turned a deaf ear, everyone paid for a public clock from their own pockets to put it on the convent tower. This is how the small stone spire that surmounted the bell tower jumped out, giving way to the current wrought-iron bell tower.

Provence city located in the east-south of France, crossed by the major river, called the Rhône. Between 1309 and 1377, seven successive popese resided in Avignon. The town is one of the few French cities to have preserved its city walls and its historic center, which includes the Palais des Papes, the Cathedral and the Pont d’Avignon and so many other treasures.
